We will send you an initial evaluation report and treatment plan via phone,  fax, or email within 48 hours after seeing your patient. We will send a follow up reports and diagnostic results as they occur.

If you have any questions at all – please call! We love visiting with our referring veterinarians.

It is our policy to only provide veterinary services related to medical needs at the time of referral.  We will refer the client back to the primary veterinarian for any other health related services, diagnostics, products, etc.

Dentistry Referral

Dr. E. Paige Heywood, a Resident of the American College of Veterinary Dentistry, provides advanced veterinary dentistry on a referral basis for pets in Southwest Missouri.  In addition to complete oral health assessments and treatment, she has expertise in many aspects of dentistry including:

  • Periodontics
  • Oral Surgery
  • Tooth Restoration
  • Extractions

If you have a dentistry case that you would like to refer to Dr. Heywood, please fill out patient referral form.  Dr. Heywood will send a comprehensive report back to the referring veterinarian with before and after photos for the patient’s medical records.

Referral for TPLO Surgery by University of Missouri Surgeons

Hometown Veterinary Hospital & River Canine Rehabilitation has partnered with the Small Animal Surgery Service at the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine to bring advanced surgical procedures to the Southwest Missouri area.

MU Veterinary Surgeons began performing Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) repair for cranial cruciate ligament injuries in Springfield, Missouri, at Hometown Veterinary Hospital in the Spring of 2018.

We are excited about the ability to provide Springfield and the surrounding communities with local access to advanced surgical procedures.

To make an appointment, please fill out the patient referral form and we will contact your client. Alternatively,  have your client contact Hometown Veterinary Hospital & River Canine Rehabilitation at 417-208-5491 to schedule the pre-operative appointment and to be placed on the surgical schedule.

You will be alerted once we have evaluated the patient, once surgery is complete,  as well as follow up through the rehab and healing process.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Referral

Dr. Kara Amstutz specializes in pain management, rehabilitation, and restorative therapies.  Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy has been shown to have many uses within the veterinary field (see chart below). Cases treated at Hometown Veterinary Hospital have included non-healing wounds, osteomyelitis, pancreatitis, FCE, and spinal injury. We have seen amazing results in our cases that have received this therapy.

If you have a patient that you would like to refer for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy – please fill out the patient referral form. Once evaluated, Dr. Kara will contact you with clinical impressions, treatment plan for your patient, as well as  follow up communication.

Pain Management & River Canine Rehabilitation Referral

Dr. Kara Amstutz is a Resident of the American College of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as a Certified Canine Veterinary Pain Practitioner and Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist. She is also finishing the requirements to become a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (Traditional Chinese Medicine Approach)

She has travelled all over the country learning new pain relieving techniques to offer the pets of Southwest Missouri.  If you have a patient that needs advanced pain management or rehabilitation such as:
